STUDS OF THE WEEK
At least Carlos Lee's owners were treated to an amazing week before possibly losing their star slugger for the season to a broken pinkie. He mustered 12 hits in his 23 at bats leading up to the injury on Saturday, including 3 HRs and 11 RBIs. Daisuke Matsuzaka threw his longest outing of the season on Saturday night to beat the White Sox. Over his past two starts he is 2-0 with 14 IP, 1.93 ERA, and 0.93 WHIP. Add to that 15 K's and Dice-K made his owners very happy!

DUDS OF THE WEEK
The All-Star game seems much longer than a month ago, at least for Aaron Cook. The Rockies' starter got shelled again on Saturday night, allowing allowed six runs on 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings. Cook has a 7.36 ERA in his last three starts and looks like himself again. So much for Adam Dunn stepping up with Griffey out. In his first full week of playing without Junior in his career, Dunn batted .154 and struck out 9 times in 28 plate appearences while failing to drive in a single run.

Major League Baseball nearly had another debacle on its hands Tuesday night as the All-Star game as the game went 15 innings.  Both teams were running out of pitchers and with home field advantage on the line everyone was just waiting for Bud Selig to call the game again.

I would hate to be a team that was a contender am have my guys out their jeopardizing themselves. Doesn't it seem to make sense to expand the All-Star rosters?

Brad Lidge, who NL manager Clint Hurdle tabbed as the team's closer, threw over 100 warm-up pitches in various bullpen sessions, before coming into the game in the 15th inning.

Lidge, 20-for-20 in save opportunities for the Phillies and the only full-time closer in the NL who has not blown a save this season, warmed up in the bullpen in the top of the ninth, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th innings only to sit down after the NL failed to take the lead.

Each time the NL didn't score, Hurdle called in another pitcher and told his closer to sit down.

"All of my pals kept getting into the game," Lidge told the Courier Post. "We had the Rockies bullpen catcher and coach and me. That was it."

Luckily the game ended on Michael Young’s sacrifice fly to give the American League a 4-3 victory in a 4-hour, 50-minute marathon, the longest All-Star Game in history.

The game has lost its luster for sure, but it still is professional sport's best All-Star event.

OTHER TAKES
--I was disappointed that Edinson Volquez gave up the bomb to J.D. Drew, it makes it hard to argue the guy should've started when he blows the save. I just hope it doesn't have a hangover effect.

--Has anybody every had a worse three minutes in All-Star game history. Dan Uggla hit into an inning-ending double play in the top half of the 10th inning with a runner on third. Then he followed it up with two errors to lead off the bottom half of the inning. Lucky for him Aaron Cook pitched out of the jam.

--Will the NL ever win again? It is completely opposite of when I was kid when the senior circuit use to dominate. The AL is now up to 12 straight victories.

--Man George Steinbrenner is not looking good. I was raised to hate that man, but I don't want to see him like that. The end is near for Mr. Steinbrenner. 

--Apparently the NL was prepared to call in Clay Counsil, Josh Hamilton's 71-year old Home Run Derby pitcher, if the game were to go to a 16th inning. Counsil was a bit tired though after giving up 32 bombs the night before to 'The Natural'.

STUDS OF THE WEEK
Boston's Dustin Pedroia has broke out his slump in a big way as he has 17 hits in his last 27 at bats with five multi-hit games, sporting a .630 batting average in that span. He has emerged as a must-start fantasy 2B with increase production in both HR's and SB's. Over the past 14 days, no pitcher has been as nasty as the Indians' C.C. Sabathia.  The big lefty has gone 2-0 after working 23 innings and turning out three quality starts. His 31 strikeouts and only four walks during the run has fantasy owners smiling and so does 1.57 ERA and 0.83 WHIP.

DUDS OF THE WEEK
Though he's not pitching terrible the Mets' Johan Santana (7-7) has disappointed fantasy owners in terms of wins. June was not good for the top pitcher taken in fantasy as he is 0-4 in his last five starts despite a 2.53 ERA. Manny Ramirez has disappeared over the past seven games. He continues to battle a sore hammy and it has taken its toll on him at the plate. Over the past week ManRam hit .182 with 0 HR's and 2 RBI's.

STUDS OF THE WEEK
The Rangers have been scoring runs galore of late and one of the major contributors has been Milton Bradley. The outfielder is batting .461 with 6 HR's and 12 RBI's over the past seven days. Jonathan O. Sanchez won his third straight start as the Giants beat the Washington Nationals 6-0 on Saturday night. Sanchez (5-3) allowed four singles, walked two and struck out four in seven innings. This marks the fifth consecutive start for Sanchez in which he lasted at least six innings and has given up two earned runs or less in each.


DUDS OF THE WEEK
Blue Jays' closer BJ Ryan had a week he would like to soon forget as he blew both of his save opportunities while posting an 0-2 record with a 33.25 ERA and an unheard of 5.45 WHIP. Fantasy owners may be a little gun shy to put him back in the line-up this week. The Cubs continue to win and lead in the NL Central, but they haven't had much help lately from 1B Derrek Lee. Over his last 7 games the slugger is batting just .167 with 0 HR's and 2 RBI's.
