Trent Richardson is a sure-fire bet to be the top running back selected in next week's draft. Many of the latest mockdrafts project him to be a top 5 pick. Over the past 10 seasons there have only been five RB's to have been selected in the first five picks of the draft and three of those came in one year, 2005.
Here's a look back at the first running back selected in each of the last 10 NFL Drafts:
2011 - 28th overall pick - Mark Ingram (NO)
2010 - 9th overall pick - CJ Spiller (BUF)
2009 - 12th overall pick - Knowshon Moreno (DEN)
2008 - 4th overall pick - Darren McFadden (OAK)
2007 - 7th overall pick - Adrian Peterson (MIN)
2006 - 2nd overall pick - Reggie Bush (NO)
2005 - 2nd overall pick - *Ronnie Brown (MIA)
2004 - 24th overall pick - Steven Jackson (STL)
2003 - 23rd overall pick - Willis McGahee (BUF)
2002 - 16th overall pick - William Green (CLE)
*3 top 5 picks were RB's (Cedric Benson 4th to CHI; Cadillac Williams 5th to TB)
