BUCS ACQUIRE REVIS
After a ton of talk all offseason long, the Jets finally pulled the trigger on a trade sending Pro Bowl cornerback Darrell Revis to the Buccaneers in exchange for a pair of draft picks, including the 13th overall selection in this week’s draft.  Tampa Bay then inked Revis to a $96 million deal…MORE

MCLAIN ARRESTED AGAIN

Recently signed Ravens linebacker Rolando McClain likely won’t stay on the team long. McClain was arrested over the weekend in his hometown of Decatur (AL) for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. It is third time that the troubled defender has been arrested while returning home. With no money guaranteed in his new deal, he is likely to be released…MORE

JETS EYE IVORY

Running back Chris Ivory has long been buried on a deep backfield depth chart in New Orleans, but he may finally get a crack for regular NFL carries. Several reports indicate that the Jets are willing to part with a 5th Round draft pick to acquire the running back. If he winds up in New York he’d be the favorite for early-down work while mixing in with Mike Goodson and Bilal Powell…MORE

LACY’S STOCK FALLING
Most mock drafts have Alabama running back Eddie Lacy as the first running back to go off the board in this week’s NFL Draft. However, Tony Pauline of DraftInsider.net is reporting that many teams have now moved UCLA’s Jonathan Franklin ahead of him at the position on their draft boards…MORE

DOLPHINS AT CROSSROADS WITH ALBERT

With Chiefs expected to draft a left tackle with the No. 1 overall pick on Thursday incumbent starter Branden Albert is on the trading block.  The Dolphins, who lost starter Jake Long in free agency, are the main team of interest. However, Albert’s high salary demands are slowing down progress in the deal getting done…MORE

MANNING USES MOVIES TO CONNECT

Consider that some of his teammates weren’t even alive when he was in high school, 37-year old Peyton Manning is using movies as a way to relate to younger players on the Broncos.  He has assigned some classic comedies from the 80’s such as “Vacation”, “Fletch” and “Stripes” for his teammates to watch…MORE

Flashback: Gradkowski Beats Bengals

20. November 2009  - Published by Dan Clasgens

I have to admit this week when I heard the Oakland Raiders were going to go with Bruce Gradkowski over JeMarcus Russell at quarterback I became a bit more worried about the Bengals being upset. For starters, Russell is terrible so any option is a better option. Secondly, I can't forget the first time I ever heard of the backup...

OCTOBER 15, 2006 - BUCS RALLY TO BEAT BENGALS

The Bengals led 13-7 at Tampa Bay with 2:35 remaining. Justin Smith sacked Gradkowski to seemingly give the Bengals the win. But Smith was called for roughing the passer, giving the Bucs the ball at the Bengals 25-yard line. Tampa Bay rallied and won the game 14-13 on an 8-yard TD pass to Michael Clayton with :35 remaining.

The winning play, on 4th and 3, was originally ruled incomplete when the ball fell out of Clayton's hands diving to the goal line. But the play was overturned on replay and ruled a catch.

The Bengals did have one last chance but Carson Palmer was sacked on second down. Marvin then passed up a Hail Mary pass. Shayne Graham was forced to try a 62-yard field goal that was short and wide right.

Marvin's classic line about the roughing the passer penalty was...."I guess you have to cuddle him to the ground"

Here a quick take and the fantasy impact (albeit minimal) on some developing QB situations:

BUFFALO - Ryan Fitzpatrick has led the Bills to two straight wins and even though Trent Edwards (concussion) has returned to limited practice, the team is opting to stick with Fitzpatrick at least for Week 8. Fitzpatrick only has value in deep leagues and ones that require starting two quarterbacks.

CLEVELAND - It appears as if the Browns have seen enough of Brady Quinn as they are sticking with Derek Anderson despite his struggles. With just one touchdown and five interceptions over his last three games, Anderson isn't much of an option.

DETROIT - Matthew Stafford is nearing a return from rookie Matthew Stafford (knee), but his status for Week 8 is unclear at this point. If he fails to make it back this week, don't be surprised to see Drew Stanton over Daunte Culpepper get the shot. When healthy Stafford makes for a decent QB2 for owners that have a solid QB1 and those playing in keeper or dynasty formats.

TAMPA BAY - With little left to play for this season, the Bucs have turned to rookie Josh Freeman. The first-rounder apparently is 12 pounds over his listed playing weight and is very raw. Not only are none of the Bucs' quarterbacks fantasy worthy, the rest of the players in the offense all take a dip in value.

TENNESSEE - Team owner Bud Adams has called for Vince Young, but head coach Jeff Fischer is not ready to make it official. He will reportedly name the team's starter for Week 8 following Thursday's practice. Expect to see Young get his crack sooner rather than the later.  Young definitely has more value than Collins going forward, but that's not saying much.

SAN FRANCISCO - Shaun Hill is giving way to former No. 1 overall pick Alex Smith. Smith did come in off the bench and toss three touchdowns last week vs. the Texans. While he's more appealing than most of the names on this list owners need to take a wait-and-see approach before considering picking up the 49ers' new starter.

WASHINGTON - The Redskins' offense has been disappointing all season long, but don't expect Jason Campbell to get pulled any time soon. Still, you can do much better than him for a QB2 and job security will remain an issue if he can't turn things around soon. The problem is Todd Collins is not a viable option.

Let's take a look at the latest headlines from around pro football...

Broncos Suspend Marshall - The Broncos have suspended WR Brandon Marshall for conduct detrimental to the team. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Marshall is suspended until Sept. 6. If he behaves during that time, the team will bring him back for the regular season opener.

Cadillac Leads Bucs - Drawing his first start this preseason, Cadillac Williams rushed eight times for 54 yards against the Dolphins Thursday night. Caddy looked much more spry than he did in last year's abbreviated return.

Bucs QB's Both Struggle - Byron Leftwich finished 9-of-17 for 100 yards against the Dolphins Thursday night. It was an inconsistent performance, as Leftwich mixed accurate bullets with overthrows and misfires. However, he still managed to outplay Luke McCown.

Vick Receives Ovation - In his first performance with the Eagles, Michael Vick completed 4-of-4 passes for 19 yards and added one yard on one rushing attempt against the Jaguars Thursday. Vick entered to a rousing ovation on the second play of the game. He was limited to short passes on three of his four attempts, finally showing off his howitzer on a 13-yard completion to Hank Baskett.

Moreno Won't Be Ready by Week 1 - According to the Denver Post, Knowshon Moreno (MCL sprain) isn't expected to be "full speed" by Week 1. The Post believes Moreno's recovery and his football conditioning will be a concern in two weeks against the Bengals.

Cowboys List Williams as Day-to-Day - The Cowboys have listed Roy E. Williams (shoulder) as day-to-day.
It was feared that Williams had broken his collarbone, but the x-rays came back negative. The team is calling it a "shoulder contusion," also known as a bruise. He'll still likely sit out the rest of the preseason, but all signs point to Williams being ready to go for Week 1.

Saints' Thomas to Miss Remainder of Preseason - Saints coach Sean Payton said Thursday that Pierre Thomas could miss the rest of the preseason with his sprained MCL."I'm not as concerned other than the snaps he's missing," Payton assured. "I think he's going to recover fully.
