Game Balls: Week 13

3. December 2012  - Published by Jimmy Dinsmore

Now is not the time for players coming up lame, or dropping goose eggs on the stat line. Last week of the regular season for most fantasy leagues, and there were some stellar performances and some lousy performances. Here’s the Week 13 Game Balls.

QB
Andrew Luck, IND, 391 yards, 4 TDs, 33 rushing yards
– His fourth TD came with seconds left on a clutch play. Luck sure doesn’t look like a rookie to anyone, and his owners are finding him to be quite helpful down the stretch.

Tony Romo, DAL, 303 yards, 3 TDs – I’ve been a Romo apologist for a long time. He’s worthy of some of the criticism he takes, but from a fantasy perspective, Romo is a consistent performer. This week against the hapless Eagles, he put up 300 yards and 3 TDs without throwing a pick too.

RB
Adrian Peterson, MIN, 210 yards, 1 TD
– I’m convinced that Peterson is some kind of terminator robot. He is absolutely inhuman in the way he conducts his professional football career. He’s consistent, and relentless.

Bryce Brown, PHI, 169 yards, 2 TDs – The rookie has been one of the best waiver wire acquisitions for fantasy owners. Four TDs over two games and Brown is turning heads. McCoy fans should be worried about what Brown does his value, even once he returns from his concussion.

WR
Wes Welker, NE, 12 catches 103 yards, 1 TD
– Welker was on pace for 20 catches with 10 of his grabs coming in the first half. In a PPR format, there are few receivers you’d rather have heading into fantasy playoffs than Welker.

Calvin Johnson, DET, 13 catches, 171 yards, 1 TD – Megatron is paying off his value as a first round draft pick for fantasy owners. When it matters most, Calvin is catching everything thrown to him and putting up huge numbers.

TE
Brandon Myers, OAK, 14 catches, 130 yards, 1 TD
– Myers is quickly becoming a fantasy stud at the tight end position. He’s not Gronk-like yet, but he’s a notch below that and is a must-start for his fantasy owners.

Kyle Rudolph, MIN, 6 catches, 51 yards, 1 TD
– Since Percy Harvin has been out, Rudolph has stepped up his game. He’s become a nice option at tight end.

GAME-USED SOCK AWARD
Roddy White, ATL, 1 catch, 20 yards
– A player like White is too good, and too talented to disappear from the playbook and to let down his fantasy owners. Inexplicably, on Thursday night, in what looked like a juicy matchup, White put up almost nothing, leaving his owners angry and frustrated. Where do we proceed with Roddy from here? You have to keep starting him, but Roddy, for this dog of a performance, here’s a game used sock. Now don’t earn another one!

Game Balls: Week 7

25. October 2009  - Published by Jim Humbert

QB Game Ball - Carson Palmer, Cincinnati - 20/24, 233 yards, 5 TD, 0 INT
While quite a few QBs threw for more yards than Palmer on Sunday, nobody had FIVE TD passes. The Bengals have been winning thanks to an improved defense and running game. And the play from their star QB has been mediocre at best. But if Palmer has more games like he did against the Bears, this could really be a good year in Cincy.

QB Honorable Mention - Tony Romo, Dallas - 21/29, 311, 3 TD (just needed to find a guy open.)

RB Game Ball - Shonn Green, NY Jets - 19 carries, 144 yards, 2 TD
What's the best way for a team with a rookie QB to win a game? Run the football. And that's just what the Jets did versus the Raiders. Thomas Jones had a nice day with 126 yards and a score. But it was the rookie Green who stole the show with a breakout performance. The Jets have assembled a nice young offense with Green, Mark Sanchez and Braylon Edwards. You may be hearing a lot about them for years to come.

RB Honorable Mention - Cedric Benson, Cincinnati - 37 carries, 189 yards, TD (humiliated the team that drafted and later cut him

WR Game Ball - Miles Austin, Dallas - 6 catches, 171 yards, 2 TD
Miles Austin is not a fluke. Two weeks ago against the Chiefs he had 10 catches for 250 yards and scored twice. So, with some quick math, that is two games 16 receptions 421 yards and 4 TDs. He has clearly become the top WR for Romo and the Cowboys.

WR Honorable Mention - Chad Ochocinco, Cincinnati - 10 catches, 118 yards, 2 TD (yes, another Bengal, but 45 points against the Bears earns a few mentions.)

TE Game Ball - Owen Daniels, Houston - 7 catches, 123 yards, 1 TD
Daniels has clearly become one of the top TEs in the game. He leads all TEs with 497 yards and his five scores tie him with Visanthe Shiancoe. And, depending on the injury to Andre Johnson, his workload could increase in the Texans offense.

TE Honorable Mention - Vernon Davis, San Francisco - 7 catches, 93 yards, 3 TD (all the scores came from Alex Smith.)

The Game Used Sock Award - Matt Cassel, Kansas City - 10/25, 97 yards, 1 TD, 3 INT
I am not sure who it was, but someone on one of the pre-game shows this morning picked the Chiefs to upset the Chargers. It really wasn't a bad call for the upset. San Diego has looked shaky this season and it's an intra-division game - anything could happen. Plus, the Chiefs showed some promise with their win against the Redskins last week (okay, they stink too.) But Cassel hasn't been too bad in recent weeks and he hadn't thrown an interception in the last four games. But that all changed against the Chargers. Cassel looked like the guy that most people thought he would look like outside of the Patriots offense. And so he gets to go home wearing his stinky socks. And if you can tell me who it was that picked the Chiefs to win that game, I'll send him one of the socks I wore today.

Stinky Sock Honorable Mention - Derek Anderson, Cleveland - 12/29, 99 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT (gets a sock every week until Quinn takes over - then he gets it.)

Game Balls - Week 1

13. September 2009  - Published by Jim Humbert

I have been writing this article for a few years now and I think it is time to change things up. Instead of trying to highlight a fantasy player from each NFL game, I'm going to give a game ball to the best performance at each of the offensive positions. And, as always, someone will earn a Dirty Sock.

QB Game Ball - Tony Romo, Dallas - 16/27, 353 yards, 3 TD
No T.O. - no problem. The Cowboys offense got off to a slow start against the Bucs but Romo eventually kicked things into gear. He ended up with three big touchdowns of 42, 66 and 80 yards - all to different receivers. Patrick Crayton caught that last one and finished with 135 yards receiving on the day. Tight end Jason Witten did not score but led the team with five catches and had 71 yards.

QB Honorable Mention - Drew Brees, New Orleans - 26/34, 358 yards, 6 TD, 1 Int (hey, it was against the Lions!)

RB Game Ball - Adrian Peterson, Minnesota - 25 carries, 180 yards, 3 TD
Sure, he's the top back in the game and he should do well against a team like the Browns. But 180 yards and three scores is very impressive. A lot of people will point out that Brett Favre won his first game as a Viking today, but Brett better give AP a nice pat on the rear.

RB Honorable Mention - Mike Bell, New Orleans - 28 carries, 143 yards (he's just filling in and, again, it was against the Lions!)

WR Game Ball - Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis - 10 catches, 162 yards, 1 TD
This summer it appeared that Wayne's stock had fallen amongst WRs. Sure, there are some exciting young guys out there like Larry Fitzgerald and Roddy White. But there was no reason to think Wayne was going to lose a step. And he certainly didn't against the Jags on Sunday. Peyton Manning found his favorite target early and often in a nice win for the Colts.

WR Honorable Mention - Tim Hightower, Arizona  - 12 catches, 121 yards (okay, not a WR but a heck of a performance.)

TE Game Ball - John Carlson, Seattle - 6 catches, 95 yards, 2 TD
If you are a regular at GSI then you know that Dan has been preaching depth at the TE position all summer long. Carlson is a good example of that depth. He was listed at No. 11 on our latest Cheat Sheet and if you grabbed him late in a draft he paid big dividends today. He's not going to score twice every game, but he is a great target for Matt Hasselbeck in what could be an explosive Seahawks' offense.

TE Honorable Mention - Tony Gonzalez, Atlanta - 5 catches, 73 yards, 1 TD (apparently not going to be overlooked in the talented Falcons offense.)

D/ST Game Balls - Joshua Cribbs, Cleveland - 67 yard punt return
Cribbs may be the best return man in football and started the season off with his 7th career TD. It is not advisable to pick up the Browns D/ST but if you are in a pinch, Cribbs may be able to come through for you. Opponents will score often against Cleveland so Cribbs will get plenty of returns!

D/ST Honorable Mention - Philadelphia Eagles - 5 Int, 2 Fum, 5 sacks, 1 punt ret TD (Just read the next award......)

The Game Used Sock Award - Jake Delhomme, QB, Carolina - 7/17, 73 yards, 4 int, 1 fum
The Panthers are coming off of a playoff season. They have an explosive running game. They have a couple of excellent WRs. The always have a solid Defense. And Jake Delhomme usually doesn't stink. But today he did. Really, really bad. I am not an expert on the Panthers or the Eagles for that matter. And I really didn't get to see much of that game. But something tells me that the Panthers embarassing loss was a fluke. Don't be surprised if, in December, everyone is looking back at week one wondering how Carolina lost that game. Either way, Delhomme is walking home wearing a couple of stinky socks.

Stinky Sock Honorable Mention - Steve Slaton, RB, Houston - 9 carries, 17 yards, 3 catches, 35 yards (if you spent a first round pick on this guy, be worried.)

GSI Mock Draft: Round Five

2. August 2009  - Published by Dan Clasgens

With the rosters filling up quickly, when you get to Round Five anything can happen. Here's a GSI Mock Draft update:

RECAPS: Round One | Round Two | Round Three | Round Four

ROUND FIVE
49. HUMBERT - TE D. Clark (IND)
50. FISCHER - WR V. Jackson (SD)
51. CLASGENS - WR B. Berrian (MIN)
52. ANSELMO - RB L. White (TEN)
53. MURDICO - RB T. Jones (NYJ)
54. SIMS - WR D. Jackson (PHI)
55. SCHMITT - TE T. Gonzalez (ATL)
56. WETZEL - TE A. Gates (SD)
57. BRYANT - QB T. Romo (DAL)
58. DINSMORE - QB C. Palmer (CIN)
59. SIMON - RB L. Johnson (KC)
60. BROERING - RB D. McFadden (OAK)

POSITION BREAKDOWN: RB (4), TE (2), WR (3), QB (2),

MY PICK: For the first time in the draft I was burned messing around. I opted to snag Reggie Bush in the end of Round Four with the thought that either Vincent Jackson or Dallas Clark would be there this time around.  You must be able to adjust on the fly. I changed directions and went with Bernard Berrian. The Vikings top wideout isn't consistent enough to be considered as a WR1 in fantasy, but he is capable of delivering big time numbers in any given week. His value would have gone up had Brett Favre opted to come back and was healthy enough to the win the job in Minnesota. Still he cracks my top 20 wideouts in my rankings.

BEST VALUE PICK: Carson Palmer is a low-risk high-reward player entering this season. He is coming off a major elbow injury, but looks to be at 100 percent. The Bengals have the weapons at wideout, even with T.J. Houshmandzadeh leaving for Seattle in free agecy, for Palmer to return to being a solid fantasy starter. The key will be whether or not the Bengals' makeshift offense line keep him upright.

MOST LIKELY TO DISAPPOINT: I have ripped Thomas Jones enough earlier on this blog, but at this point I can live with his selection.  Honesttly, there really isn't a player on the board right now that I am not good with in Round Five. Tony Gonzalez is a likely candidate for a slow start though as he moves from Kansas City to Atlanta.

FINAL TAKE: Overall a good round. When you get to this point of the draft you need to fill needs, but you also need to try to forecast the runs. Know what positions that the owners that draft after you and then before you again (with snake draft) need and already have. The round was the most balanced yet, but will set up some different strategies for owners down the stretch.

Starter Making a Comeback

11. June 2009  - Published by Rick Broering

That's right the company that made the greatest pullover jackets in the world during the 90's is making a comeback.

Iconix, the company who bought Starter from Nike, has signed it's first endorsement deal with an athlete since they filed for bankruptcy 10 years ago. Quarterback Tony Romo signed a lucrative deal with Starter to be featured on advertising and point-of-purchase materials.

Starter can't use any Cowboys logos, but they are selling plenty of blue and white gear with Romo featured on the front. They have also made a pair of on field shoes for Romo, however the Starter star logo will have to be covered up due to NFL uniform rules.

One big advantage for the company that they may or may not have planned on is all the paparazzi that shoot photos of Romo and pop-star girlfriend Jessica Simpson. If Romo is wearing his starter apparel out in public like he claims he does, the company will get plenty of free publicity. Smart move if you ask me.

Around The NFL

PRO-FOOTBALL FACE-OFF: Dan Clasgens and Chad Brendel break down the big game and talk everything NFL.

Let's take a look at some of the latest headlines from around the NFL...

WARD SAYS HE WON'T MISS SUPER BOWL (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)
Hines Ward treated the questions yesterday as if he were boring down on an unsuspecting safety. He will play in the Super Bowl. It was not a prediction but a blood oath. "I have two weeks to prepare for the Super Bowl and I won't miss the Super Bowl," Ward told wave after wave of similar questions...MORE

COACH, CARDS ADDED RIGHT PIECES (Arizona Republic)
Second-year coach Ken Whisenhunt has been applauded for making all the right moves, from hiring a solid coaching staff, letting offensive coordinator Todd Haley take over the play-calling responsibilities, and putting his faith in Kurt Warner. But he also had to assemble a strong supporting cast of football players, and in that regard, perhaps Whisenhunt hasn't received nearly enough credit as the Cardinals prepare to face the Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII...MORE

BRADY DOING 'REALLY WELL' (Boston Globe)
While avoiding specifics and not providing a timetable to return from his left knee injury, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was a guest on a Toronto sports radio station yesterday and said his rehabilitation was "going really well." Brady told Fan 590, "Anyone who has come back from injuries that require surgery, it's just a process," "There are some good days, some bad days, and you just have to keep plugging through them. That's life. Things come up and you just have to focus your energy and attention on all the positive things that you can gain. It tests you in a lot of ways. I'm excited about the process, I'm excited about the work." ...MORE

COWBOYS' ROMO VOWS TO BE BETTER LEADER (Dallas Morning News)
Tony Romo wants to win a Super Bowl badly, is still bothered by missing the playoffs three weeks after the season ended and said his leadership approach will be different in 2009. Since the Cowboys' season ended with a 44-6 loss on Dec. 28 at Philadelphia, Romo had remained silent with the local media. That is until Wednesday night when he broke the silenece...MORE

RAIDERS CONTINUE THEIR COACHING SEARCH (Contra Costa Times)
The Raiders interviewed Al Saunders for their offensive coordinator vacancy Wednesday and former Seattle Seahawks defensive line coach Dwaine Board for a similar position with the Raiders. RYAN TRYING TO KEEP SCHOTTENHEIMER (NFL.com)
With their head coach in place, the New York Jets are getting closer to lifting off with the ever-important position of offensive coordinator. If Rex Ryan cannot convince offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to stay with New York, he then plans to hire Bengals quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese as Schottenheimer’s replacement. Under that scenario, the Jets’ coaching braintrust would have a lineage of coaching success stories. Buddy Ryan, Rex’s father, was a longtime standout coach, and Ernie Zampese, Ken’s father, was a noted offensive mind...MORE

Fantasy: Next Year's Top 10

31. December 2008  - Published by Dan Clasgens

**SIGN-UP NOW TO GET IN MY PLAYOFF FANTASY LEAUGE **

I plan on working on my own 2009 Cheat Sheet and Top 50 Overall list this weekend, but I wanted to share the one from Rotoworld.com's Gregg Rosenthaul.  Of all the big media fantasy gurus, he's the one I most frequently agree with. However, I will promise you one thing, my list will be drastically different than his initial top 10:

1. Adrian Peterson
2. Maurice Jones-Drew
3. Matt Forte
4. Marion Barber
5. Steven Jackson
6. Chris Johnson
7. Brian Westbrook
8. Frank Gore
9. Andre Johnson
10. Calvin Johnson
11. Larry Fitzgerald
12. Brandon Jacobs

Just Missed, in no particular order: Michael Turner, DeAngelo Williams, Clinton Portis, Steve Smith, LaDainian Tomlinson, Drew Brees, Marshawn Lynch, Jay Cutler

OTHER TAKES HE HAD AS THE SEASON ENDED...
--Fred Jackson ran for 136 yards against the Patriots in one of the most impressive displays I saw all season. New England stacked the box with eight and nine guys every play, and Jackson's vision and leg drive were remarkable. He carried defenders on his back. Jackson finishes with 888 efficient yards from scrimmage and 37 catches on the season. He averaged more yards-per-carry than Marshawn Lynch and is a better receiver. That's bad news for Lynch owners because Jackson has earned a spot as the lesser half of a committee long-term.

--I still need to watch the tape, but Cedric Benson's 462 yards in his last three games will get him some job offers this off-season. His best chance to start, by far, should be staying in Cincinnati.

--Tony Romo's poor finish to the season, against very difficult competition, should keep his price tag enticingly low in next year's drafts.

--LaDainian Tomlinson has undeniably looked fresher the last two weeks. He ran much harder against a collapsing Bucs defense and a terrible Broncos defense, but don't forget the first 14 mediocre weeks and how easy his schedule was. Two good weeks doesn't return him to top-five prominence next year.

Week 17 Parting Shots

28. December 2008  - Published by Dan Clasgens

Just a few observations from the final Sunday of NFL regular season action:

  • DETROIT FIRST EVER TO GO 0-16 - The Lions did it! We finally have an 0-16 team. One year after we witnessed our first 16-0 team ever, we now have an 0-16 team as the Lions lost in Green Bay 31-21. The Lions haven't won since Dec. 23, 2007, actually, when they beat the Kansas City Chiefs. And Green Bay is where this woeful streak began at the end of last season. Since then, the Lions have lost 17 straight and been outscored 551-281.

  • PENNINGTON GETS LAST LAUGH - I am a big Brett Favre fan and I really do think that I saw him play his last game ever today. Still, I was rooting for Pennington to come back to the Meadowlands and claim the division title in front of the fans that were so happy to replace him with the future Hall of Famer to start the season. The bonus came with Miami's win also eliminating the Patriots from the playoffs for the first time since 2002. Tony Romo proves once again that he can't handle the pressure of a big game.

  • COWBOYS SUFFFER WORST LOSS IN FRANCHISE HISTORY - After both the Bucs and Bears blew their chances to put pressure on the Cowboys, the Eagles learned just before the kickoff of their game that a win over Dallas would give them the NFC's final playoff berth. The Eagles embarassed the Dallas Cowboys, who I've said all year long is the league's most overrated team. They proved it on Sunday as they lost 44-6 with their season on the line.

  • BLOWING IT DOWN THE STRETCH - If you look at the four teams that missed out on the playoffs on Sunday that at one point looked like a lock - the Cowboys, Bears, Bucs, and Jets - you see one consistent trend. Disappointing finishes. Over the last five weeks of the season the teams mentioned above went 6-14. Enough said. I don't think Lovie Smith or Jon Gruden are going anywhere, but it wouldn't surprise me to see the ax come down with any of these teams.

  • RESTING STARTERS NOT A BAD IDEA - I am not a big fan of how it robs me of a good week of fantasy football, but you can't argue with coaches that sit their players with the playofs in hand. Mike Tomlin is wishing he would have pulled the plug on Ben Roethlisberger before he got knocked out of the game with a concussion. The look on Tomlin's face when his franchise quarterback was on the turf for nearly ten minutes said it all. Big Ben suffered a concussion and should be alright in two weeks when the Steelers next play.

  • FALCONS, RAVENS RIDE THEIR ROOKIE QB'S - Nothing is more impressive than the 1-15 turnaroud Miami had to win the AFC East. Still, I couldn't end this blog post without mentioning how amazed I am that both Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco led the Falcons and Ravens to wildcard berths respectively. I didn't give either team much of a chance to compete this year, especially with rookie quarterbacks. I don't expect either team to go too deep into the playoffs, but I learned my lesson and won't take them for granted either. Both teams are very much capabale of beating their first round opponents next.

Lineup Locks: Championship Week

19. December 2008  - Published by Jimmy Dinsmore

Here is our Line-Up Locks for Week 16. If you're reading this, you have likely made it to the ultimate goal, your league championship. Congrats. Now, make the best moves that will bring that title. Here's a quick look at those who has favorable matchups (LOCK IN) and those who deserve a spot on your bench this week (LOCK OUT):

QUARTERBACKS
Lock In:
--Matt Cassel vs. Ari
My take: This is one of the best match ups of the week. In one of my leagues (going for the title), I benched Jay Cutler for Cassel. The Cardinals made Tavaris Jackson look great last week, Cassel should shred them all day.

--Shaun Hill @ StL
My take: Here's a bold move. Hill was held without a TD last week, but this week, he'll put up numbers closer to those from his game against Jets where he threw for almost 300 and had a couple of TDs.

--Matt Schaub @ Oak
My take: For a couple weeks here, I've said to use caution with Schaub and I've always touted the Raiders pass defense. Well Schaub has been fantastic, and the Raiders pass defense has disappointed, so Schaub is a good start this week.

Lock Out:
--Phillip Rivers @ TB
My take: The Chargers have gotten lucky lately and Rivers has benefitted. I think this is a very difficult match up for Rivers and all the Chargers, and I would steer clear this week.

--Eli Manning vs. Car
My take: It will be a marquee game, for sure, but I don't look for Manning to have a big day. Despite what they say, the Giants miss Plaxico Burress' playmaking ability.

--Tony Romo vs. Bal
My take: With their running game a question mark and their offensive line still inconsistent, this match up worries me for Romo. They might squeak out a win, but scoring and fantasy points will be hard to come by.

RUNNING BACKS
Lock In:
--Pierre Thomas @ Det
My take: Reggie Bush is out for the year, Deuce is likely not to play, so the ball is Thomas' and he'll take it to the end zone, over and over this week.

--Kevin Smith vs. NO
My take: Smith has been one of the few bright spots for the Lions and they've finally realized that he needs to touch the ball a lot.

--Brian Westbrook @ Was
My take: Cedric Benson torched the Redskins for over 150 multi-purpose yards, so what do you think a back like Westbrook will do? Exactly.

Lock Out:
--Chris Johnson vs. Pit
My take: Hey rookie, THIS is the NFL. Johnson has not seen a defense like this all year, so I would stay away, if you have better options.

--Marion Barber/Tashard Choice vs. Bal
My take: Choice was the right choice last week, but neither he nor Barber are good starts this week.

--Tim Hightower @ NE
My take: The Cardinals running game has been non-existent and that won't change this week.

WIDE RECEIVERS
Lock In:
--Randy Moss vs. Ari
My take: Big day for Moss and Cassel.

--Calvin Johnson vs. NO
My take: This game could be a high scoring affair and even though the Lions are awful, Johnson is absolutely a stud.

--Antonio Bryant vs. SD
My take: Bryant has been targeted regularly and often should be considered a must start at this point.

Lock Out:
--Terrell Owens vs. Bal
My take: Ed Reed and the Ravens will give TO something to cry about.

--Desean Jackson @ Was
My take: Too inconsistent to be counted on this week.

--Santonio Holmes @ Ten
My take: He was "given" a TD last week, but he will struggle to find scoring chances this week.

TIGHT ENDS
Lock In:
--John Carlson vs. NyJ
My take:  He's about the only Seahawks worth starting this week.

--Dustin Keller @ Sea
My take: Fantastic match up and a great day for a spot start for this rookie.

--Zach Miller vs. Hou
My take: Especially good in yardage heavy and PPR leagues. May not score, but good for several catches and 60+ yards.

Lock Out:
--Antonio Gates @ TB
My take: Everyone who owns Gates is fed up, show your disgust this week as he has yet another bad match up.

--Chris Cooley vs. Phi
My take: The Redskins offense showed me nothing last week and this week the match up is actually tougher.

--Heath Miller @ Ten
My take: Just an overall tough match up this week. Not enough offense to go around for Miller.

TEAM DEFENSE/ST
Lock In:
--NYJ @ Sea
--Phi @ Was
--Cin @ Bal (yeah, that's right, it's a homer pick from me, but the Bengals defense has been good and Cleveland's offense is awful)

Lock Out:
--NO @ Det
--Ariz @ NE
--Min vs. Atl

Fantasy: Playoff Rants

9. December 2008  - Published by Dan Clasgens

The fantasy playoffs either started last week for you or are likely getting ready to kick off in Week 15. Either way a microscope gets place on decisions like at no other point of the season. My best advice, don't sweat it.

Really, the situation is out of your control and the best you can do is make an educated guess. However, all too often I see fantasy owners do things out of the oridnary as they look for any edge they can get. That's not a bad thing, but don't let it blind your judgment. Just last week I had a guy insisting inside one of our live chats that him starting J.P. Losman in a dome or Donovan McNabb against the Giants in 40 MPH winds.  Weather needs to be considered, but only as a deciding factor not the sole reason.

Here are some more interesting dilemmas you may be looking at this week...

SAINTS' OFFENSE IN THE WINDY CITY
Last week Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush both porved to be valuable for fantasy owners in a high-scoring affair inside the dome against the Falcons and Drew Brees and his stable of receivers always make logical plays. However, this week the Saints travel to Chicago for a Thursday night showdown with the Bears. We all remember the Saints' offense dismal showing in the NFC Championship game two years ago and something tells me their offense isn't built for a December game at Solider Field. At this point, there is only a 10% chance of snow but it is going to be cold. The Bears' D is actually better against the run than the pass and that could be good news for Drew Brees, who's still a must play regardless of his match-up at this point. Bush is likely to get some catches out of the backfield and Thomas could get a short-yardage score, but neither back will put up high rushing totals. Colston and Moore are always capable of putting some numbers, but neither is a lock and both could be sat for a better match-up.

STEELERS VS. RAVENS
Unless it's the defense I am staying clear of all players in this match-up. As good as the Steelers and Ravens have played this one is going to be a physical affair. Ben Roethlisberger doesn't look 100% to me and he'll struggle with the Ravens' pressure. No way does rookie Joe Flacco get the call in this enviroment with your playoff livelihood on the line. The Ravens' backfield is a mess, but LeRon McClain could be argued for a RB3. Pittsburhg's backfield is frustrating. Mewelde Moore is running the best, but Willie Parker is still getting carries and Gary Russell is coming in at the goalline. Stay away from the situation altogether at this point. Hines Ward, Santanio Holmes, and Derrick Mason have each had their moments this year, but rolling the dice on any of them producing in these circumstances is not recommended.

WILL THE REAL DOMINIC HIXON PLEASE STEP UP?
There is been so much hype surrounding Dominic Hixon since Plaxico Burress and this point the jury is still out on the Giants' wideout. I wasn't expecting much last week against Philly in blistery condiditions, but Hixon still was within inches of a huge catch. I like his upside and I am expecting the game in Dallas on Sunday night to have more offense than what we've been seeing. Hixon is a great WR3 and has great upside against a Cowboys' secondary that has a tendency to get beat deep. I am playing him in my PPR format as my FLEX player this week and recommend that you do the same.

CAN ROMO BOUNCE BACK, SHOULD BARBER START?
While on the topic of Sunday night's big game in Dallas, let's talk about the Cowboys. I hope you listened last week when I said sit Tony Romo. He was dreadful against Pittsburgh, finishing with just 1 TD and 4 turnovers. He's not going to blow it up this week, but I definitely expect a bounce back and consider him a solid starting option against the Giants. The G-Men have been tough on defense and have only allowed 13.2 points per game to fantasy QB's, but I look for the Cowboys to have much more success through the air this time around. The running game is a different situation altogether. Marion Barber is likely going to be a game-time decision again and even if he comes back he's battling a toe and calf injury and with the way rookie Tashard Choice has performed seeing the two split carries would not be hard to imagine. Should Barber be ruled out, Choice is a low-end RB2 option and worth a look as a flex.
