NFL Injury Report

23. October 2009  - Published by Rick Broering

Aaron Rodgers, Packers - Rodgers participated fully in practice on Wednesday and said that his foot injury isn't a big deal. He'll play on Sunday.

Derek Anderson, Browns - Anderson participated in full on Wednesday at practice and his ankle injury will not keep him from playing on Sunday.

Trent Edwards, Bills - Edwards missed practice on Wednesday due to a concussion. He hasn't been ruled out for Sunday's game yet, but likely will be soon.

Eli Manning, Giants - Manning was limited in practice on Wednesday but said that his foot was not bothering him at all.

Jerome Harrison, Browns - Harrison is one of many Cleveland players who is nursing the flu right now. He missed practice on Wednesday.

Frank Gore, 49ers
- The bye week help Gore as his ankle injury is fine, he practiced fully on Wednesday and will play on Sunday.

Adrian Peterson, Vikings - Peterson is dealing with an ankle sprain which caused him to only practice on a limited basis on Wednesday.

Rashard Mendenhall, Steelers - Mendenhall has a bruised knee and was limited in practice on Wednesday. The fact that he's practicing leads me to believe he'll be fine for Sunday, barring any setbacks.

Fred Taylor, Patriots - Taylor missed practice on Wednesday with an ankle injury.

Jonathan Stewart, Panthers
- Stewart missed practice on Wednesday with his Achilles injury. He's been missing practice for weeks now and still runs well on game-day.

Darren McFadden, Raiders
- McFadden's knee injury will keep him out of game-action until Week 10.

Jerious Norwood, Falcons
- Norwood suffered a hip flexor on Sunday and does not expect to play this week.

Michael Turner, Falcons
- Turner was limited in practice on Wednesday with a chest injury. It is assumed that he'll be able to play on Sunday.

Marion Barber, Cowboys
- Barber said that his quad is no longer a problem and that he'll play with no issues. He practiced on Wednesday.

Felix Jones, Cowboys
- Jones practice fully on Wednesday but wore a knee brace for the entirety of practice. He may wear the brace in the game on Sunday.

Chris Wells, Cardinals -
Wells was limited in practice on Wednesday with a hip injury but is expected to play on Sunday.

Ahmad Bradshaw, Giants
- Bradshaw was limited in practice on Wednesday with his foot injury but that's a step in the right direction. He usually has been watching on Wednesday and Thursday and practicing for the first time on Friday.

Anquan Boldin, Cardinals
- Boldin's ankle injury kept him from practicing on Wednesday.

Chansi Stuckey, Browns
- Stuckey is battling the flu, like many of his teammates. He missed practice on Wednesday.

Joshua Cribbs, Browns
- Cribbs was held out of practice on Wednesday with a knee injury.

Percy Harvin, Vikings
- Harvin was seen catching passes early in practice but was still limited on Wednesday.

Donnie Avery, Rams
- Avery has a hip injury that kept him out of practice on Wednesday. He hopes to return to practice on Thursday.

Michael Clayton, Buccaneers
- Clayton was limited in practice on Wednesday with a hamstring injury. He is expected t make the trip this week and play against New England.

Jerricho Cotchery, Jets
- Cotchery only participated in individual drills and skipped the team portions. The Jets hope his limited status won't keep him out of Sunday's game.

Braylon Edwards, Jets
- Edwards was limited in practice with a quadriceps injury but he's not expected to miss any time.

Roy Williams, Cowboys
- Williams returned to practice on Wednesday. His forearm injury seems fine and he'll play on Sunday.

Steve Breaston, Cardinals
- Breaston was limited in practice on Wednesday but is expected to play on Sunday.

Mario Manningham, Giants
- Manningham took a knee to the back last week but feels fine now. He practiced fully on Wednesday and will not wear a protective jacket in Week 7.

Fantasy Sleeper Alert: Lee Evans

21. August 2009  - Published by Dan Clasgens

The off-season hype in the Buffalo passing game has centered around the arrival of Terrell Owens. However, it is fellow wideout Lee Evans that will provide the better value.

The latest Average Draft Position (ADP) reports in leagues drafted on MyFantasyLeague.com have Owens going off the board as the 14th wideout selected and somewhere between the 38th and 39th overall selection (Round 4 in 12-team leagues). Meanwhile, Evans is being taken as the 25th receiver somewhere near pick 70 (end of Round 6 in 12-team leagues).  In many formats, Owens will be taken even earlier.

While I give a thousand reasons to stay away from T.O., this post is more about why to like Evans. Here are a couple of factors to consider:

SINGLE COVERAGE
Evans hasn't had a receiver opposite of him that warranted much consideration by opponents since Eric Moulds departed Buffalo in 2005. During the two years he had Moulds in the mix, Evans found his way to the end zone 16 times. Meanwhile, over the past two seasons he's only scored eight times. Owens' arrival will force teams to place single coverage on him and allow Evans more chances to make big plays.

IMPROVED QUARTERBACK PLAY
Trent Edwards still needs some more development  before being considered a legitimate NFL starting quarterback, but he shows promise and is a huge upgrade over JP Losman (no longer with team).

SOLID RUNNING GAME
The Bills offensive line is improving and the running attack is viable. Once Marshawn Lynch returns from his three-game suspension and rejoins Fred Jackson and newcomer Dominic Rhodes, the backfield will demand attention and open up the passing attack even more.

****
FINAL TAKE: Evans has always struggled with consistency, but has proven time and time again he's capable of putting up some huge days. For where he's falling, the value couldn't be better. Evans should be viewed as a low-end option WR2 in deeper leagues and a stellar WR3. He possesses top 10 potential though and would be more than worth a 6th round pick.

Fantasy Impact: Lynch Suspension

9. April 2009  - Published by Dan Clasgens

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell issued his verdict on Bills' running back Marshawn Lynch this week and it now appears that he will be suspended for the first three games of the 2009 season. He was hoping for a one or two-game suspension after meeting with the league a couple of weeks back, but it is still better than the typical 4-game sentences we have seen Goodell hand out.

The news is still not good though for Lynch, who is coming off a lackluster 2008 campaign. While he did manage to rush for 1000 yards for the second straight season, the 22-year old only churned out three 100-yard games and was held scoreless in 8 of 15 contests. The overall numbers were not bad, but considering the high price tag that accompained him in last year's drafts/auction Lynch was a a bit of a disappointment.

The real threat to his value was the emergence of Fred Jackson. He took plenty of touches away from Lynch last year and quite honestly look better more often than not. He will certainly get a ton of looks with Lynch out and if he makes the most of the opportunity he could slide his way into being the primary runninig back. At the very least, his carries are likely to go up this season while Lynch's will slowly go down.

With the addition of Terrell Owens and the emergence of Trent Edwards, I am exicted about the progress that Buffalo's offense could make this season. Still, Lynch will drop a tier and Jackson will go up a tier in my next rankings. It's still a tough call to say which Bills' running back I would take first, but neither are them are worth grabbing in the first three rounds at this point.

Bills A Good Fit For Owens

8. March 2009  - Published by Dan Clasgens

Though I didn't even list them as one of the five teams I thought would be a good fit for Terrell Owens, the Buffalo Bills appear to be a nice landing spot for the free agent. The Bills agreed to terms with Terrell Owens on a one-year, $6.5 million contract over the weekend.

It is totally out of character for them, but the fact they did a one-year deal seems to make a lot sense. Owens will have something to prove and with a potential of one last big payday waiting in the wings, T.O. is going to be motivated.

Owens joins Lee Evans to give the Bills their best receiving duo since Andre Reed and James Lofton paired up to give Jim Kelly some formidable targets.

The addition of T.O. is huge for Evans, who has struggled as a No. 1 through quarterback transitions and without any help opposite of him.

Owens and Evans have been two of the NFL's three best receivers when it comes to touchdowns of 30 yards or longer. Owens leads the way with 15, while Evans is tied with three others for third with 10.

Trent Edwards appears to be the real deal at quarterback and now he'll get his chance to prove it.

Lineup Locks: Week 11

14. November 2008  - Published by Jimmy Dinsmore

Here is our Line-Up Locks for Week 11. Bye weeks are finally over and this week's games have a lot of great match ups. I only list three, but there are plenty of good options this week. Here's a quick look at those who have favorable matchups (LOCK IN) and those who deserve a spot on your bench this week (LOCK OUT):

QUARTERBACKS
Lock In:
--Matt Ryan vs. Den
My take: Ryan has performed like a veteran for the very underrated Atlanta Falcons. This week his match up is so good, you have to consider Ryan a top 10 QB this week. Expect a couple of scores and at least 200 yards from him.

--Donovan McNabb @ Cin
My take: McNabb should have time to shred the Bengals defense, and can still scramble away from any pressure the defense might put on him.

--Trent Edwards vs. Cle
My take: Edwards has been hot and cold but is poised for a very nice week in what could be an offensive shootout.

Lock Out:
--Chad Pennington vs. Oak
My take: Last week I hyped up Jake Delhomme to exploit the Deangelo Hall-less Raider secondary and that didn't happen. The Raiders are a mess on offense, but have actually overperformed on defense all year. I think the Dolphins will use a lot of Ronnie Brown this week in order to win the game.

--Eli Manning vs. Bal
My take: I think the Giants will win this game, but I don't think Eli does much to warrant a start this week.

--David Garrard vs. Ten
My take: The Jags have been a huge disappointment and with their season slipping away face one of the toughest defenses in the NFL. Until I see improvement from Jacksonville's o-line, I am leaving Garrard on the bench.

RUNNING BACKS
Lock In:
--DeAngelo Williams vs. Det
My take: I say start every Panther you can in this game, if possible as Detroit can't stop anything. It might be a shootout, but I think Williams could be the best of the scorers for Carolina this week.

--Tim Hightower @ Sea
My take: This year's rookie running backs has been a fruitful crop. Hightower is no different. While the Cardinals are a pass-first team, I think Hightower gets 100 yards and a score this week in what could be a closer game than some think.

--Marshawn Lynch vs. Cle
My take: Lynch has been a disappointment, but I think he comes back in a big way this week. As long as he gets 20 touches, he'll be good for 100 yards and a score.

Lock Out:
--Maurice Jones-Drew vs. Ten
My take: The Titans are the second best team in the NFL in rush defense. Factor in how bad the Jags o-line has been and I don't like MJD's chances this week.

--Earnest Graham vs. Min
My take: Several factors should keep Graham on the bench. Warrick Dunn is back from an injury, as is Cadillac Williams. Plus, Graham is gimpy and questionable with a bum knee and the Vikings are the #1 rush defense in the NFL.

--Justin Fargas @ Mia
My take: The match up isn't particular ominous for Fargas, but Darren McFadden is allegedly going to play this week and, in case you haven't been paying attention, the Raiders offense is atrocious. I would not start any Raiders at this point.

WIDE RECEIVERS
Lock In:
--Santana Moss vs. Dal
My take: Clinton Portis is likely not going to play, which means the Skins are going to have to air it out in order to beat the Cowboys and I think Moss will benefit from increased touches, especially in PPR leagues.

--Steve Smith vs. Det
My take: I realize that Smith and Delhomme had a great match up last week and were fairly disappointing, but this week, at home, versus a lousy Lions team, you can count on a great game from Smith.

--Roddy White vs. Den
My take: The Broncos can't stop anyone from scoring and moving down the field. The Falcons' offense is very good at home. And White has been one of the most consistent WRs in terms of production that no way you don't start him this week.

Lock Out:
--Vincent Jackson @ Pit
My take: This is a tough match up for the Chargers in general, and as a result, I think you can expect very little from Jackson this week.

--Bernard Berrian @ TB
My take: I have said several times in this column how underrated the Tampa defense is and for this reason, I think it will be a low-scoring affair. Berrian is a borderline starter every week, but not this week.

--Marvin Harrison vs. Hou
My take: He's a Hall of Famer, for sure, but he isn't that Hall of Fame talent any more. I don't think Harrison warrants a start in anyone's lineups now that bye weeks are over.

TIGHT ENDS
Lock In:
--Chris Cooley vs. Dal
My take:  As mentioned, without Portis, Jason Campbell will look to Cooley often as a safety valve.

--Owen Daniels @ Ind
My take: Daniels is a fantasy stud and gets a great match up this week.

--Kellen Winslow @ Buf
My take: He was targeted 11 times last week by new QB Brady Quinn and put up over 100 yards and a score. Expect nice numbers again this week from Winslow.

Lock Out:
--Greg Olsen @ GB
My take: The Packer secondary is very good and so are their linebackers. I'm not confident in anyone on the Bears defense this week.

--Todd Heap @ NYG
My take: Yes that was Todd Heap in the end zone last week, but don't get too excited and do something foolish like start him.

--Kevin Boss vs. Bal
My take: And yes that was Kevin Boss in the end zone last week, but again, don't do anything foolish like start him.

TEAM DEFENSE/ST
Lock In:
--Carolina vs.Det
--NYG vs. Bal
--Phi @ Cin

Lock Out:
--Buf vs. Cle
--Atlanta vs. Den
--Was vs. Dal

Game Balls: Week 7

19. October 2008  - Published by Jim Humbert
Steven Jackson, RB, St. Louis - 25 carries, 160 yards, 3 TD
The Rams got four turnovers from the Tony Romo-less Cowboys and Jackson made the most of the opportunities. After getting off to a slow start the stud running back has put together four straight games of 100 or more total yards. The passing game is still struggling in St. Louis with Marc Bulger throwing for just 173 yards. But as long as they are giving the ball to Jackson the Rams have a chance to win.

Andre Johnson, WR, Houston - 11 catches, 141 yards
Everyone has a good game when they play the Lions but Johnson has been putting up numbers like this every week. He did not manage to find the end zone but got his team near it numerous times. Tight end Owen Daniels scored twice and running backs Steve Slaton and Ahman Green each ran one in. Matt Schaub put up some of the best QB stats for the day completing 26 of 31 passes for 267 yards. Be sure to keep your Texans in next week as the Bengals will be in town.

Mewelde Moore, RB, Pittsburgh - 20 carries, 120 yards, 2 TD, 1 rec TD
You know that deep inside no one was more upset about the Steelers win over the Bengals than Willie Parker. Sure, his team won but he missed an opportunity to boost his stats. That honor fell to Moore on Sunday and he certainly cashed in. Ben Roethlisberger had his typical day with 216 yards and two TDs. Heck, even Byron Letwich got in on the act and connected with Hines Ward for one more late score.

Chris Johnson & LenDale White - 35 carries, 317 yards, 4 TD

The Titans are legitimate and have the makings of being a serious contender to go deep into the playoffs, They have a solid defense and one heck of a running game. It also helps to have teams like the Chiefs on your schedule. Regardless, they are the only undefeated team and with Johnson and White carrying the load it may be a while before they lose.

Clinton Portis, RB, Washington - 27 carries, 175 yards, 1 TD
The leagues leading rushed padded his total against the Browns. He also lead in rushing attempts and is now tied for the most touchdowns with seven. His late fumble nearly cost his team the game but he sealed the win by running out the cloack. Jason Campbell did not need to do much in the low scoring affair and threw for just 164 yards and a touchdown. He also has yet to throw an interception this year.

Chicago Bears DEF/ST - 2 TDs, 4 Int, 2 Sacks
Sure a team that gives up 41 points to the Vikings probably shouldn't get a game ball. But on Sunday the Bears looked a lot like they did two years ago in the Superbowl run. They blocked a punt and ran it back for a TD. Then they recovered a muffed catch on another punt and ran that back for a score. The only thing that didn't happen was Devin Hester returning a kick for a touchdown - that's next week!

Steve Smith, WR, Carolina - 6 catches, 122 yards, 1 TD
The Panthers All-Pro receiver had another fine day against a division rival. This time it was the Saints that paid the price to watch Smith perform. He has six catches in each of the last four games and averaged 106 yards in those games. The rest of the offense did not need to do much as the Panthers D put a hurt on the normally explosive Saints. They held Drew Brees to just 231 yards and no touchdowns and Reggie Bush to just 60 combined yards.

A Bag of Game Used Socks Awards
All NFL Quarterbacks

When Gus Frerotte leads the day in passing you know something isn't right. The Vikings QB threw for 298 yards in the shootout in Chicago. Of course he also threw four interceptions. No QB threw more than two touchdowns on Sunday and only six guys did that. Brett Favre, Drew Brees and Peyton Manning all finished the day without throwing for a score - and all of their teams lost. Favre, Jake Delhomme, Aaron Rodgers, Marc Bulger and Derrek Anderson all finished with less than 200 passing yards. There were a few QBs who had decent games such as Ben Roethlisberger, Trent Edwards and Matt Schaub. But for the most part the passing game stunk it up throughout the NFL on Sunday. You can give defense credit if you like but I just assume give the quarterbacks a stinky sock.
