Angel In The Outfield

29. April 2013  - Published by Dan Clasgens

One of the biggest sports stories to go viral this year didn’t come from a player at all, rather from a sideline reporter that had a brush with fate.

Kelly Nash, one of my favorite follows on Twitter @KNashSports from her rock-solid work with ACC Digital Media, is the new sideline reporter for Sun Sports and the Tampa Bay Rays.

While on special assignment for an upcoming feature at Fenway Park, Nash posed for a selfie from atop the Green Monster during batting practice to send to her many of our friends/family in the area.

During the picture with her back to the field she nearly got clocked in the head by a ball and her camera caught everything. After looking at the picture Nash realized how close she came to a potentially fatal blow. She accredits not getting drilled by the ball to good fortune and suggests the fact she had the DVD of the movie "Angels in the Outfield" in her bag that maybe there were truly angels looking out for her in the outfield that day.

Within 24 hours her tweeted photo became viral with Nash appearing on TV and radio shows across the country. She picked up 1,000 new followers on Monday. A rising star in the industry just got a ton of new eyeballs and only good things lie ahead:

Twitter Accounts Every Guy Should Follow

15. March 2010  - Published by Dan Clasgens

Follow GSI on Twitter.

Tweets should do one of two things—make us laugh and/or tell us something we care about. Unfortunately, the Twitter universe is brimming with Tweets about cute cats, self-promoting BS and pointless meandering thoughts. ("Taking a brisk walk.") To cut through the crap, we scoured thousands of Twitter accounts to bring you 100 that may make think, "Hey, this Twitter thing isn't so crappy after all."

Twitter NFL's Latest Enemy

4. August 2009  - Published by Dan Clasgens

Much has been made here in the Queen City about Chad Ochocinco Tweeting during games, but I don't see it happening as the NFL is laying down the law.

The was a great article about the topic this week in the New York Times...

"As training camps opened last week, players were told that the same standard — read: paranoia — that applied to the flow of information to reporters also applied to Twitter. In Green Bay, players were told they would be fined if they texted or tweeted from team meetings or coaching sessions.

Football coaches are a password-protected lot, preferring to dispense so little information that most days, they would struggle to fill 140 characters. They worry that the casual nature of Twitter could inspire the budding bloggers in their locker rooms to inadvertently disclose more than they should about injuries, game plans and what is said behind closed doors.

The N.F.L. does not have a policy about social media, although it warns players about the risks of someone impersonating them on one of the sites. Cellphones, computers and P.D.A.’s cannot be used by players, coaches or other club personnel on the sideline, in coaches’ booths or locker rooms from pregame warm-ups through the end of the game. But N.F.L. officials are working on a policy that would apply to the use of social media sites on the day of the game."

Chad Ochocinco Challenges Golic to Fight

19. June 2009  - Published by Rick Broering

Chad Ochocinco and Twitter... A match made in heaven.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that the Bengals wideout has embraced the new form of social media as a way to express himself. Ochocinco has already used the application as a way to entertain, express, and now get back at the media.

Ochocinco began posting yesterday in response to Mike Golic's (from Mike and Mike in the Morning) criticism about the wideout. Here is the "tweets" sent yesterday by Ochocinco.

OGOchoCinco: Oh it's on again, I want to fight Mike Golic now, always got something negative to say, how about this, you've gained all that weight yo ...

OGOchoCinco: Golic If y'all don't shut up I am gonna retire and come take over your damn show, keep it up!!!!

OGOchoCinco: I am going to Bristol after mini camp, they getting out of hand with the disrespect!!!! Child Please

Golic didn't take the bait but did talk about it on his show today. Mike and Mike: Ochocinco Challenges Golic

However, Ocho wasn't done yet... Today Skip Bayless was a target of one of his "tweets:"

OGOchoCinco: Skip Bayless is a dried up yogurt raisin with no sports background!!!! He gets a check for saying the dumbest shit!

The Bengals wide receiver is back to being himself in regards to his trashtalking, flashy and boastful ways. As for Bengals fans... Just embrace it. Let's face it, the OC has always been at his best when he is having fun. This is his way of expressing himself. I am glad to see it back, and I can't wait to see what 9 and 85 are able to do this season with them both being healthy.

18. May 2009  - Published by Dan Clasgens

from the Lexington Herald-Leader...

It took less than a month for University of Kentucky Coach John Calipari to get 50,000 followers for his Twitter account, UKCoachCalipari. He celebrated by announcing he’ll give signed UK T-shirts to every 1,000th follower.

“You fans & followers are crazy!! We just passed 50k!! Let’s go for 100k!!” Calipari posted.

Earlier in the day Calipari wished good luck for former UK players Rajon Rondo and Chuck Hayes in their NBA playoff games.
