Declining RB Workloads

16. August 2012  - Published by Dan Clasgens

The days of the workhorse running back in the NFL are coming to an end and nearly every team has implemented two-running back systems. Over the past four seasons there are only four running backs in the in the league that have accumulated 1,000 or more touches: Chris Johnson, Ray Rice, Maurice Jones-Drew, and Steven Jackson.

In fact the once easily obtainable number of 300 touches in a season is also on the decline. Check out the year-by-year breakdown over the past decade of the players to reach that feat:

2010 - 11

2009 - 9

2008 - 11
