Favre A Late-Round Sleeper

17. August 2009  - Published by Bret Sims

I said a long time ago that Brett Favre would be the Vikings QB before all was said and done but most people shut the door once he and the Vikings said it wasn't going to happen.

Favre just wanted to be able to opt out of training camp and preseason which he has effectively done but I'm willing to bet he suits up for the regular season.

There is a lot of buzz going around the NFL that Favre plans on joining the team so I say draft him in your last two rounds and hold onto him especially if you have drafted AP.

People might laugh at you on draft day or call you crazy but you can laugh you way to the title when he returns and his 10 yard dump passes are turned into 60 yard TD runs by AP.

Montoya Needs To Call Obama

27. July 2009  - Published by Bret Sims

Juan Montoya who lost the Brickyard 400 yesterday due to being 0.06 mph and 0.11 mph over the speed limit coming down pit road.

You have got to be kidding me!  Like there is a radar that can accurately measure that deviation.  Scientifically you can't validate that speed on just one point.

I think Montoya should file a suit against NASCAR based on the grounds of racism and that they didn't want to see a non caucasian win the event.

He should be on the phone to Obama right now.  I mean if Obama can weigh in on a professor and police incident surely he can weigh in on this matter.

Montoya was crushing the field yesterday and no-one was going to catch him.  NASCAR had to do something.

Miller Changes Mind Takes Arizona Job

6. April 2009  - Published by Bret Sims

Yahoo! Sports reported today that Xavier basketball coach Sean Miller has accepted Arizona's offer to become its new coach, one day after reportedly turning the offer down.

The Yahoo report stated Miller told Arizona he would be remaining at Xavier late last night, then asked if he could to sleep on the decision. He then informed XU athletic director Mike Bobinski of his decision today at noon.

The Enquirer has multiple calls in to Bobinski, who has not answered.

Officials Cost H.S. Team Possible Title

30. March 2009  - Published by Bret Sims

Last year it was Lakota West girls team that ended up on the wrong end of some poor officiating during regulation that cost the Firebirds their first basketball championship.  Instead it went to Mount Notre Dame, a very deserving school that may or may not have won in overtime anyway.  The point was that the officials completely blew the call at the end of regulation, allowing a basket that was clearly after the time expired.  I was there as a non biased observer and have to say it was one of the worst calls I have ever seen.

On Saturday another local team, the Princeton Vikings, found themselves victims of poor officiating.  For the record I sincerely hope those offcials are reviewed and not allowed to officiate another DIV I game in the next 10 years if ever.

Not to take anything away from Columbus Northland or to say that Princeton didn't have their chances and failed to convert but for the same officials who appeared to swallow their whistle through most of the game they sure found it at the wrong time to impact the outcome of the game.

The trailing offcial who didn't have a clear view made the call on the last second desperation shot by Columbus Northland.  There wasn't contact on the foul let alone enough to warrant that call at the end of the game to decide the game.  You let teams go into overtime and fight it out.

Worst is Yet to Come for UK Fans

5. March 2009  - Published by Bret Sims

UK threw away any chance they had short of winning the SEC Tournament of getting an NCAA Tournament bid with an embarrassing loss on Senior Day to lowly Georgia.

This has been a season of woes for the Wildcats after starting the SEC season 5-0 before falling to teams like Ole Miss, Vandy, South Carolina twice, LSU for the first time in 20 years at Rupp and now Georgia.

On a night when the Wildcats knew they had to win to have any shot at getting into the NCAA Tournament they once again showed a lack of defense, the inability to hit clutch shots and free throws and little to no heart.

Mos UK fans console themselves with their statistics about how many National Titles they have or the number of SEC crowns or being the winningest team of all time.

Well this is the first time in 17 years that UK won't be dancing in March.

UNC could be the first team to 2,000 wins now instead of them.

UNC could become the winningest team in NCAA history by early next season.

Meeks and Patterson could bolt for the NBA.

Yes UK fans, things may get worse.

Mike Casey Has Strong Words For UK Coach

3. March 2009  - Published by Bret Sims

Mike Casey is considered one of the greatest players to ever wear a UK uniform.  Many fans will tell you that UK would have probably won another NCAA Championship had Casey not broken his leg in a motorcycle accident.

Casey averaged 50% shooting from the field and people can only imagine what kind of points he would have had if the 3-point line existed when he played.

When he speaks about UK basketball people tend to listen and recently he spoke about Billy Gillispie to a website called "Sea of Blue" and it has to be one of the strongest comments about the new coach which is what many in Lexington have been asking themselves for most of this season.

Casey -- "First of all, I think he's in over his head.  I think he has no clue as to what's going on in the game."

"I just don't think he knows what it means to coach at UK.  I hate to say it, but a change has to be made, and soon, or we're going to lose what UK is all about.  Ask (Richie) Farmer, or (John) Pelphrey, or (Deron) Feldhaus what it means to play at Kentucky.  Ask them what that "Kentucky" across their chests means.  Somehow we've let that go.  If we lost we came out fightin' mad; we weren't going to lose two in a row.  It's beyond me why (Mitch) Barnhart and (Lee) Todd put up with it."

The only thing that I can say in Billy's defense is that kids don't care about the great traditions of UK, UCLA, Kansas...they care more about their own legacy and how they can get the the NBA with as little time spent in college but with that said if Gillispie continues to be subborn to the point that he isn't willing to adjust to the game then his stay in Wildcat Blue may be shorter than he thinks.

Mitchell Would Have Made Huggins Proud

1. March 2009  - Published by Bret Sims

Syracuse is pounding UC by 20 points.

Yancey Gates is on the bench with two early fouls.

Alvin Mitchell makes no attempt to touch the ball on his extremely hard foul on a Syracuse player going up for a layup.  He knocks the guy out of bounds and then just walks away.

Mitchell was called for a flagrant foul and tossed out of the game.

What a classless act to not even try and help the guy up nor did Mick seem to have a problem with it.

Looks like Mick Cronin is falling right in line with Bob Huggins style of coaching.

Stick a Fork in Them, Kentucky Is Done

28. February 2009  - Published by Bret Sims

As 24,411 screaming Wildcat fans watched Tasmin Mitchells hit a game-winning 3-pointer as LSU beat UK and more than likely ended their run of going dancing in March.

Blog sites are smoking hot with opinions, complaints and tears with some still holding out hope but as a liftetime fan of Kentucky I have to say they don't deserve to go dancing unless they win the SEC Tournament (not going to happen).

I don't want to see UK get in ahead of a more deserving mid major or even a better team in one of the other conferences.

UK doesn't deserve to go dancing this year.

Put a fork in them, they are done.

XU Won't Make It To The Sweet 16

20. February 2009  - Published by Bret Sims

Mark it down basketball fans that Xavier won't make it to the Sweet 16 and could possibly lose in the first round of the Big Dance.

No I am not overreacting to their loss last night because that loss is the symptom of a bigger ailment and that is the A-10.

XU is falling into the same trap as UC did when they played in C-Who-S-A and that is they are so much better than their competition that they haven't been forced to improve their play as the season has gone on.

When you are beating teams with less talent night in and night out it is easy to become complacent with your achievements and start to believe all you have to do is show up.

I have said it since December that XU isn't going to make it past the 2nd round of the Big Dance and I still believe that.

Mark it down and remember you heard it hear first when it happens.

XU is quickly becoming the Bearcats.

NCAA: Latest Top 25 A Joke

16. February 2009  - Published by Bret Sims

Louisville loses to Notre Dame by 33 points and only falls 1 spot.

Duke loses to UNC and Boston college and only slips 3 spots while remaining in the top 10.  Had the refs not homered Miami the Blue Devils would have lost 4 in a row.

Clemson lost to Virginia and Wake Forest lost to N.C. State and neither fell out of the top 10.

I guess the seeding for the NCAA Tournament has already been determined for the top 10 teams and nothing will remove them.

This is the kind of thing that ruins the sport.
