8 Thinigs That Will Happen At Camp

11. June 2011  - Published by Greg Shoemaker

A little weekend humor from HolyTaco.com:

The Fat Kid Will Spend All of His Money on Snacks

There's always going to be a fat kid at Summer Camp.  It's not just going to be a kid who's fatter than everyone else, either; this kid is going to be fat, like "the mom from What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" fat.  His parents gave him forty bucks for snacks for the whole week of camp, but as soon as he finds out that the Camp General Store is well stocked with Ho-Ho's and Cowtails, his pockets will be empty, and his face will be covered with chocolate and cream filling.  For the rest of the week, he's going to be hounding you for change to buy more snacks.  Do yourself a favor and indulge his addiction, because when puberty hits him in a few years, he's going to turn into a behemoth.  He'll quickly become the most valuable high school ally that you'll ever have, because former fat kids remember people who buy them treats like your girlfriend remembers every pair of tits that you've ever ogled behind her back (yeah, she totally saw that.)

UConn Knocks Out UC

20. March 2011  - Published by Greg Shoemaker

from the Hartford Courant...

Kemba Walker did it in so many ways. He was calm and cool, swishing a three-pointer with just under four minutes. Then he was a disruptive ball of instinct and energy, stepping into the lane of a Rashad Bishop pass for a steal that set up Roscoe Smith for a dunk that just about sealed a trip to California.

The longer the game went, the more Walker left his sneaker prints all over it — just like those sneaker prints all over the UConn record book. Walker scored 33 points and set a UConn single-season scoring record as the third-seeded Huskies defeated No. 6 Cincinnati 69-58 in an NCAA Tournament West Regional game at the Verizon Center.

UConn (28-9) advances to the Sweet 16 and will face No. 2 San Diego State Thursday in Anaheim.

The Huskies, who also won the regular season meeting with Cincinnati, have won seven in a row and are two victories from the Final Four.

XU Loses Redford For Season

24. October 2010  - Published by Greg Shoemaker

from official press release...

Xavier University announced today that junior guard Brad Redford suffered a left knee anterior cruciate ligament tear that will require reconstructive surgery.

"Brad Redford suffered a left knee anterior cruciate ligament tear during a practice session yesterday," Xavier University Head Team Physician Robert R. Burger, M.D., said. "Because of the nature of the injury, he will undergo reconstructive surgery sometime in the near future. We anticipate Brad will miss the 2010-11 season but will make a full recovery for the future."

Redford, one of the nation’s top 3-point shooters, played in 66 games in his first two seasons as a Musketeer, averaging 5.2 ppg. Redford, who finished first in the Atlantic 10 Conference in 3-point shooting percentage as a freshman with a school-record 46.5 percent accuracy, finished second as a sophomore at 42.5 percent. Out of his 108 career field goals, 101 of those were 3-pointers.

Redford earned Michigan “Mr. Basketball” honors during his record-breaking career at Frankenmuth High School.

August Does Reds Well

1. September 2010  - Published by Greg Shoemaker

Here's a look back at the great month by the Reds (from Lance McAlister):

AUGUST
--The Reds finished August 19-8...the best record in ML for the month. It's their first 19 win month since September of 1999.
--The Reds have had a winning month in each of the season's five months....for the first time since 1979. They are one of only three teams (Padres/Yankees) to accomplish that this season.
--The last Reds team to have a winning season in each month of a season was the 1976 Reds.
--The Reds outscored their opponents 148-126 in August
