Favre Not Coming Back

Will the media please let Brett Favre rest in peace? I am getting so sick and tired of all the talk of him returning.

The Hall of Famer once again extinguished the rumors of a potential return.

On Wednesday afternoon, ESPN.com reported that Favre had the "itch" to be back on the field for training camp to play for an 18th NFL season. It is a dramatic turnaround for the 38-year-old Favre, who announced on March 4 that he would retire after 16 years as the Green Bay Packers quarterback.

As of Wednesday night, there was only one public comment from Brett Favre, in a text message to his friend and Biloxi Sun-Herald sports reporter, Al Jones.

"It's all rumor."

Favre's brother, Scott, told WTMJ-TV that Favre was working out and that the odds were fair for Favre's return.

"I think it's 50-50," Scott Favre said. "There's no doubt he can play. He's in good shape, he's working out, we know he can still play, he's healthy, so, if he did, it wouldn't surprise me."

Will someone please shoot Favre and put him out of misery. Don't kid yourself, I think he's the greatest QB I've watched in my lifetime. I also think he still can perform in this league at a high-level, but the franchise is being held hostage by all of this talk. Favre just needs to file the damn papers and make his retirement official.

All Brett has to say is that he's definitely not coming back.  Funny how those words can't seem to come out of his mouth - saying that "it's all rumor" is a classic non-denial denial.  Funny how his own former teammate (www.profootballtalk.com/.../) seems to be feeding this info to Chris Mortensen.  Favre's enjoying this media attention more than anything.  He's become just a selfish man the way he's dragged the Packers through this crap for the last 4-5 years.

FWIW, I'd have a hard time putting Favre any higher than #3, behind Montana and Elway, and Manning and Marino would be pretty darned close.  Hmmm, I'm smelling a blog post(s) in our future...

My ranking would be: Elway, Montana (I can't put the man who broke my heart 1), Manning, Favre, Marino. Marino is last because he only made 1 Super Bowl. And before it's all done with, Tom Brady will make this list too and probably push Marino out.

Each QB was great for sure. Montana and Elway were both great, but really we talking apples and oranges. Favre's greatness is defined by his heart, his ability, and his kid-like love for the game. As good as the others were, none of them had the ability to turn what looked like into a dead play, into a positive like Favre did. None of them touched his toughness though. His consecutive games started streak WILL NEVER BE TOUCHED. He beat Marino's records and got a ring, so sorry Dan but Brett beats you too.

Montana and Elway are really a different generation of QB. It's hard to argue where Favre falls in there, but during the past two decades of football there's no doubting that he's the best to line up under center that the NFL had to offer.
