Hint: Go take another look at your waiver wire

10. September 2008  - Published by Chris Wetzel

I know, many of you are letting this day get you down.  Maybe you missed out on (fill in your week one undrafted star here).

Take heart, because there is still hope.

Now, many of you play in leagues with an all-hardcore owner group.  Many of you do not, and now is the time to take advantage - quietly, I might add - of newer owners who are desperate.

Sure, they got a great pickup on the waiver wire.  But be sure to check out who they might have dropped to get that so-called gem.  I am in four different fantasy leagues (all with 12 teams); here is a summary of who is currently available as free agents or as waiver pickups effective tomorrow:

Willis McGahee

Ryan Grant

Fred Taylor

Chad Johnson

Marques Colston

Laveranues Coles

Ronnie Brown

Jake Delhomme

Bernard Berrian

Felix Jones

Jamal Lewis

Joey Galloway

Chester Taylor

I know that some people on that list have valid arguments for dropping them as well as for keeping them, but some of them should by no means be dropped.  Four of those are starting running backs on their respective teams; a couple of others are getting enough playing time to be viable from a fantasy perspective.

So, maybe you didn't get your Dante Rosario waiver request processed, but there's gold to be found...one man's trash is another man's treasure, right?

please sign me up for this league next year. None of those guys should be on waivers. Ridiculous. Is Chris Fessler in that league by chance?

I thought it was pretty crazy too, but I kept checking league after league after league...unreal.

Surely others are experiencing the same thing?

What is up with my star rating?  Huh?  Is this a reflection of jealousy that I'm in a league where these guys are available, or a knee-jerk reaction to my feigned inflated ego in yesterday's Fantasy Stockwatch?

What's wrong with the advise?  I'm sure the guy I beat last week in the GetSportsInfo House League is in the process of dumping his entire team like he does every day in our fantasy baseball league.

If you've ever played Scrabble, he's the guy missing turns because he's always getting a new seven.

(You know what?  I don't care about those star ratings, especially if mine's low...I'm leaving, and taking my ball with me.)

Chris - I just checked the five leagues that I am in and none of those players are available. If you ever have an opening in one of your leagues let me know!!!

AND - I just gave you a 1-star rating because you bitched about it. Go ahead, take your ball!

That's just cold, man.  Smile

None of these guys are available in my league either...

Chris,

Do you play in a league of Morons?  What other explanation would there be for having these guys on the wire?  Ryan Grant?  Seriously?

or in any of my leagues. For God's sakes, people are bidding on Sammy Morris they're hurting so bad for pickups. I do agree with your comment about Chris Fessler though. Good analogy. I added a star to your rating for making fun of him.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting these guys to be on everyone's waiver wire.  I was just telling you who was on mine in my other three leagues (besides the GSI league).

Many of us hardcore guys are fighting for scraps...might I toot my own horn and say I drafted Sammy Morris, and that in the GSI league that Eddie Royal was drafted?  So, for the diehard fantasy nut, these guys won't be there.

But some of us are in leagues with coworkers, with friends who are more casual fans, etc.  And those people may be newer to the concept of fantasy football.  Most of these are from my work league, and there are a couple casual NFL fans who are playing for the first time this year.  One of the other leagues, though - in which Chad Johnson, Willis McGahee and Ronnie Brown are available, is a pay league.

I'm just saying I was surprised, and that some people might be surprised as well.

Chris always brag to me about how many league titles he had won...yeah now I am seeing why.

Is Bubby Brister available in your league?  He is in mine.  I'm gonna get him immediately.  Championship!

Dan, you've gotta grab that low-hanging fruit, right?  Smile  (And by the way...I did get Ryan Grant.  At 9th position out of 12.)  It's really just tough love is all.
