Oddsmakers Favor Boston

8. October 2008  - Published by Dan Clasgens

This edition of the playoffs is supposed to be one of the most wide open races ever, with every team seemingly having a chance to win the World Series trophy. However, the oddsmakers are still favoring the Red Sox, the only team still remaining that did not win their own division.

Latest odds to win World Series (Linesmaker.com):
Boston +175
Tampa Bay +175
Los Angeles +300
Philadelphia +350

The Red Sox are the defending champions though and if any team can deliver on its promise, Boston is it. In fact, since the wildcard was first implememented in MLB back in 1995 there have been four teams that were able to parlay that entry into the World Series into a World Championship, including the 2004 Red Sox.

Wildcard teams to win World Series:

1997 Florida Marlins
2002 Anaheim Angels
2003 Florida Marlins
2004 Boston Red Sox
