Browns Pull Plug On Anderson

3. November 2008  - Published by Dan Clasgens

After falling to 3-5 with Sunday's loss to the Ravens, the Cleveland Browns have decided its time to make a change at quarterback.

Incumbent starter Derek Anderson will be replaced by former first-round pick Brady Quinn.

Anderson led the Browns to 10 wins last season, and after an 0-3 start, he had guided the Browns (3-5) to three victories in their past four games before Sunday's loss.

Quinn will get his first start in the NFL on Thursday against the Denver Broncos, according to the Akron Becon-Journal. He also was listed as the starter on the depth chart, on page 22 of the team's weekly news release.

The switch was confirmed, just a few hours after coach Romeo Crennel said during a news conference Monday that Derek Anderson was still the quarterback.

The Browns hope the switch will ignite an offense that was one of the league's best last year but entered Sunday's 37-27 loss to the Ravens ranked 30th in total offense.

Quinn was 14-of-24 for 106 yards in the Browns' third preseason game against the Lions and 7-of-9 for 65 yards in the preseason finale against the Bears.

Here's a look at Anderson's numbers over the past two seasons:
