XU Won't Make It To The Sweet 16

Mark it down basketball fans that Xavier won't make it to the Sweet 16 and could possibly lose in the first round of the Big Dance.

No I am not overreacting to their loss last night because that loss is the symptom of a bigger ailment and that is the A-10.

XU is falling into the same trap as UC did when they played in C-Who-S-A and that is they are so much better than their competition that they haven't been forced to improve their play as the season has gone on.

When you are beating teams with less talent night in and night out it is easy to become complacent with your achievements and start to believe all you have to do is show up.

I have said it since December that XU isn't going to make it past the 2nd round of the Big Dance and I still believe that.

Mark it down and remember you heard it hear first when it happens.

XU is quickly becoming the Bearcats.

Bret, the way X is playing lately, I don't think you're really stepping out on a limb there.  Having missed the game and relying strictly on the box score, this seems to be a product of the same problem they had last year - good outside shooters that they depend on more than they should, not much inside game.  Except this year they've got less perimeter skills, and when the shots aren't falling, and the other team hits a few, that'll happen.  I don't know if it's a competition issue or just that they've hit a bad run of luck - we'll see in a few weeks for sure.

good insight Bret. I agree. Plus teams with crappy PG production don't go far in the tourney.
