Let's take a look at some of the latest news from the Bengals as they brace for their second preseason game...
FINDING A FULLBACK
One of the many storylines developing on HBO's Hard Knocks is the Bengals need for a fullback. Currently Jeremi Johnson sits atop the depth chart at the position with a pair of rookies, Fui Vakapuna and Chris Pressley, battling for the job. Johnson is still overweight and looks like a huge question mark at this point. Meanwhile, the Raiders recently released former Bengal Lorenzo Neal. The 38-year old is on the decline, but his leadership is unquestioned and if the team is smart they will give him a hard look as he can't be in any worse shape than Johnson.
SMITH'S AGENT COMING TO TOWN
The team has yet to sign the sixth-overall pick in the draft, tackle Andre Smith. However, his agent Alvin Keels informed his followers on Twitter that he plans to visit Cincinnati after Thursday night's game. "Spoke with Katie today and i think that i am going to sneak into Cincy after the game 2mrw to sit down with ownership. Wish me luck," Keels Tweeted.
PALMER NURSING ANKLE
ESPN's Bob Holtzman reports that Carson Palmer (ankle) will not play in the Bengals' second preseason game. The team has downplayed the injury's severity, but Palmer is in a boot with a high ankle sprain. The injury does not appear to be too serious, but is worth monitoring. Look for J.T. O'Sullivan and Jordan Palmer to get extra reps in his absence.
