from the LA Daily News...
One of the most historic, exciting nonconference rivalries in all of college football has been, for lack of a better description, pretty lame in recent years.
If it wasn't for the now-infamous "Bush Push" game between USC and Notre Dame in 2005, there would hardly be any game or play in the series over the past seven years that even merits a reference.
The Trojans have won the past seven games by a combined score of 314-75. The past three years it's been even uglier, with USC winning 44-24, 38-0 and 38-3.
"I thought we just got manhandled," Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said of last season's game, in which the Fighting Irish managed just 91 yards of offense. "You know, from start to finish I thought we got manhandled."
Now finally, after seven years of lopsided USC drubbings, Saturday's game between the two teams in South Bend has a chance to be good. Meaningful. And, um, competitive.
