Fantasy: Buy Low

24. October 2009  - Published by Dan Clasgens

Matt Hasselbeck (SEA) – After coming off his worst passing day since 2004, Hasselbeck’s value is low. However, following his Week 7 bye the Seahawk’s quarterback gets the Cowboys, Lions, Cardinals, Vikings and Rams in his next five. All of those teams currently rank in the top 12 in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks.

David Garrard (JAC) – The Jaguars’ signal caller has now gone back-to-back games without a touchdown and is on a bye this week. Following the break though he faces a Titans’ secondary that he’s already lit up for 323 yards and 3 TD’s earlier this year. He follows that match-up up with a tilt vs. the Chiefs, who are allowing 13.1 points per game to fantasy quarterbacks.

LaDanian Tomlinson (SD) – Even the Chargers loss on Monday night to Denver, L.T. showed encouraging signs of life posting his best rushing numbers of the season. He was as involved as he was all season in the team’s offense. No team has more favorable schedule for fantasy running backs than the Chargers over the next nine weeks.

Donnie Avery (STL) – A hip injury forced him out of last week’s game and could limit his this week. Still, the Rams seemingly are always chucking up it late in games as they try to play catchup and few teams have more favorable fantasy match-ups for wideouts, particularly come fantasy playoff time in Weeks 14-16 when Avery has TEN, ARI, and HOU on tap.

Calvin Johnson (DET) – He has one touchdown, one 100-yard game and two different injuries that sidelined for the past two weeks. Johnson has a Week 7 bye and his status for Week 8 is still in question. His value will never be lowered and few players have higher upside. The Lions have match-ups with the Rams and Seahawks on tap. Throw in games versus CLE, GB, CIN, and ARI between the critical weeks 11-15 and he’s worth a shot.
