There is a little more than a week left in the decade, what a decade it was in the world of sports. I really enjoyed Yahoo.com's recent look back in the decade of sports. Here are some more of the interesting things I saw...
Best NFL Team - 2007 New England Patriots
No, they didn't get the big shiny ring at the end, and everyone outside of New England thought "18-1" was pretty funny. Let's not kid ourselves, though. No one saw a better team in the '00s. They went 16-0 in the regular season, and only four of those wins were of the single-digit variety. They annihilated teams. Randy Moss(notes) set a record with 23 touchdown receptions, Tom Brady set a record with a mind-blowing 50 touchdown passes and Brady also got 49 of 50 MVP votes.
Biggest MLB Controversy (non-steroids) - The 2002 All-Star Game Tie
In an effort to improve TV ratings and to ensure that the tie of 2002 never happened again, Selig decided to make the All-Star Game count for home-field advantage in the World Series. To this day, that silly provision remains one of the sport's hottest flashpoints and makes an impact on the game's biggest stage every season.
Biggest NBA Meltodwn - The melee in Auburn Hills
Ron Artest(notes) was a little wronger than most, there's no doubt about that, but there's no point in stopping there. That night's referees; who let the game get out of control initially? Wrong. Ben Wallace's(notes) reaction to Artest's hard foul? Wrong. Pacers teammates who didn't drag Artest off the scorer's table? Wrong. Pistons fans? Wrong. Ron Artest? Way wrong. Assorted Pistons and (mostly) Pacers? Wrong.
NCAA Basketball Best Game - Illinois 90, Arizona 89 (OT) -- Regional final, 2005 NCAA tournament
It was the wildest comeback the NCAA tournament has ever seen. Down 15 with four minutes to go, No. 1 seed Illinois stormed back to send its Elite Eight matchup with Arizona to overtime. The game had been tight through the first 30 minutes before the Wildcats pulled away, seemingly on their way to the Final Four. But some Deron Williams heroics saved the Illini, who would go on to lose in the finals to North Carolina, possibly becoming the best team of the decade to not win the title.
College Football Biggest Play - Bluegrass Miracle - Nov. 9, 2002
Kentucky fans thought they had won the game, but LSU's Devery Henderson somehow pulled in Marcus Randall's prayer as the Tigers pull off the amazing comeback.
