Joey Votto (CIN) – A month long spout with dizziness brought on by depression and anxiety put a damper in what was otherwise a great season by the Reds’ slugger. With a square head on his shoulders and a full season to play, Votto could deliver 30 HR’s and 100+ RBI’s while still having a great .OPS. He will not last too long, but he in some of the drafts I’ve been looking at their have been 10+ first basemen going off the board before him. He has top-five potential.
James Loney (LA) – He is coming off a season in which he produced decent numbers (.281 BA, 90 RBI, 73 runs) and at 25 years old, the Dodgers’ former first round pick is ready to explode. He will likely slip down into the 14th/15th round range and has the upside to deliver nicely for owners, even if it is as a corner infielder. He won’t hit the homeruns that usually come along with the position, but if you get that power production elsewhere Loney makes for a great filler.
Others that will provide good value: Lance Berkman (HOU), Billy Butler (KC), Carlos Pena (TB), Adam LaRoche (ARZ), Chris Davis (TEX), Aubrey Huff (SF).
