LT Picks Jets

15. March 2010  - Published by Dan Clasgens

Former Chargers’ running back LaDainian Tomlinson has signed a two-year deal to play with the New York Jets.

ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter reports the deal is worth $5.1 million with an escalator that could boost it to $5.6 million.

The veteran is expected to backup youngster Shonn Greene in the Jets’ backfield.

I am not sure I understand the move. The Jets could have Thomas Jones back for nearly the same price. He signed with the Chiefs after being cut by New York and was twice as productive last year at L.T. was.

Jones rushed for a career-best 1,402 yards and 14 touchdowns. He averaged 4.2 yards a carry.  Tomlinson rushed for a career-low 730 yards and 12 touchdowns. His 3.3-yard average was a personal-worst.

Tomlinson is a future Hall of Famer no doubt, but his name has more sizzle than what his play is likely to deliver. This is a lateral move at best for the Jets.

From a fantasy prospective, Greene is still the best option out of the Jets’ backfield, but L.T.’s arrival knocks him down a notch again.
