Reds: Three Make It; Votto Snubbed

5. July 2010  - Published by Dan Clasgens

For the first time since 2004 the Cincinnati Reds have more than the mandatory one player that will represent them at the All-Star game as three different players were named to the National League team on Sunday.

Veteran third basemen Scott Rolen was named to the team for the sixth time in his career and first as a Red. Meanwhile teammates, relief pitcher Arthur Rhodes and second baseman Brandon Phillips, earned their first-ever nod.

Most of the talk though is about which player did not get named to the team, first baseman Joey Votto. It could be one of the biggest snubs in the history of the game.

Since 1952, there hasn't been a National League player to rank in the top 5 in batting, homeruns and RBI and NOT make the All-Star team.  Players to Rank in Top 5 in batting, homeruns, and RBI in league and NOT make the All-Star Game during that span:

--2010 Joey Votto, Reds, NL
--1966 Boog Powell, Orioles, AL

Votto did get included on the list of players fan can vote in for the final spot though. Fans have until Thursday to cast their votes and can vote up to 25 times per day.
