Arroyo Automatic

Cincinnati Reds Pitcher Bronson Arroyo picked up his 15th win on Monday in the team’s win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

It marks the third straight season that the veteran right hander has reached the milestone. He is one of only four pitchers in baseball to accomplish that feat joined C.C. Sabathia, Roy Halladay, and Jon Lester.  Tim Lincecum of the Giants will join the list with one more win.

Arroyo is the first red to reach 15 wins in three straight years since Tom Browning did it from 1988-1990.

Reds’ beat writer John Fay pointed out some even more impressive numbers on his blog:

--Arroyo is one of four pitchers to record at least 32 starts and 200 innings for five straight years. He will make it six with 2 1/3 more innings. Dan Haren, Javier Vazquez and Mark Buehrle are the others. Haren (202 this year) has already made it six in a row. Buehrle (187 1/3) will get there. Vazquez (148 1/3) will not.

--Since being acquired by the Reds Arroyo has made 166 starts. That ties him with Haren for the most in baseball. Arroyo leads MLB with 1,069.1 innings over that period.

The team has an $11 million option on Arroyo for next season. It appears as if that could prove to be one of baseball’s best bargains.

Not only is Arroyo is as consistent as they come, he has also emerged as one of the team’s most vocal leaders.
