Okay I have gotten over the disappointing effort by my beloved Redlegs, but that doesn’t take away from what promises to be a thrilling stretch drive of the playoffs. I did predict the Yankees sweep of the Twins and had the Giants and Phillies picked to advance. The only series I figured wrong is the Rangers-Rays matchup, as I took Tampa Bay in five games. Here’s my stab at some LCS predictions.
PHILLIES vs. GIANTS
Gm 1: Sat 10/16 – Roy Halladay vs. Tim Lincecum (7:30 PM)
Gm 2: Sun 10/17 – Roy Oswalt vs. Jonathan Sanchez (8:00 PM)
*Gm 3: Tue 10/19 – Cole Hamels vs. Matt Cain (4:00 PM)
*Gm 4: Wed 10/20 – Joe Blanton vs. Madison Bumgarner (7:30 PM)
*Gm 5: Thu 10/21 – TBD - if necessary – (8:00 PM)
Gm 6: Sat 10/23 – TBD - if necessary – (3:30PM)
Gm 7: Sun 10/24 – TBD – if necessary – (7:30PM)
*at San Francisco
My pick: The Phillies are the heavy favorites to win the series, but don’t count the Giants out too quickly. There pitchers will battle the Phillies big three and if the games get to the bullpens the series will get real interesting. Both teams have a huge home-field advantage, so if either comes up with a road win early it could swing everything…PHILLIES IN SEVEN
RANGERS vs. YANKEES
Gm 1: Fri 10/15 – C.J. Wilson vs. C.C. Sabathia (8:00 PM)
Gm 2: Sat 10/16 – Colby Lewis vs. Phil Hughes (4:00 PM)
*Gm 3: Mon 10/18 – Cliff Lee vs. Andy Pettitte (8:00 PM)
*Gm 4: Tue 10/19 – Tommy Hunter vs. A.J. Burnet (8:00 PM)
*Gm 5: Wed 10/20 – TBD - if necessary – (4:00 PM)
Gm 6: Fri 10/22 – TBD - if necessary – (8:00PM)
Gm 7: Sat 10/23 – TBD – if necessary – (8:30PM)
*at New York
My pick: Fresh off their first-ever post-season series win, the Rangers now face a Yankees’ team that has hung up more hardware than any team in professional sports. Texas has a potent lineup and Cliff Lee and that will help them get a game or two, but the Bronx Bombers will prevail once again…YANKEES IN SIX
