Bengals: Smith Continues To Disappoint

13. November 2010  - Published by Dan Clasgens

The hits just keep on coming with the Cincinnati Bengals and former first-round pick Andre Smith.

The team selected him with the 6th overall selection in the 2009 draft and it has been bad from the start.

Most draft gurus and sports bloggers (including yours truly) pegged Smith as a potential bust.

There were plenty of stories and claims against his work ethic and weight issues and both carried over the league.

His time with the team started with the very public holdout aired out on HBO’s Hard Knocks.  His rookie season was wasted and derailed by a foot injury.

Smith came into camp overweight this year and now has been placed on IR after breaking the foot again.

Through two seasons he managed to play in just 13 games and start five.

The Bengals inked Smith to a six-year, $42 million deal and can reduce it to four years after this season.  You can bank on that, but is we worth the extra $9.5 million in guaranteed money he is still owed?  You better believe that the team and whomever the coach is next season will give serious consideration in cutting ties with him sooner rather than later.
