Fantasy Feedback: Keeper Dilemmas

19. February 2011  - Published by Dan Clasgens

It's getting to be time for some fantasy baseball questions:

QUESTION: Keep only 3 of the following...

Adrian Gonzalez
Justin Upton
Dustin Pedroia
Dan Uggla
Jose Bautista
Corey Hart
Michael Young

I know this isn't an overly sexy list, but it’s the best I've got.

Thanks,
Brian C.

ANSWER: Gonzalez is a lock. His move from Petco Park to Fenway Park is going to give his numbers a big boost and he will be in the middle of one of baseball’s most potent offenses in Boston.

At 23 years of age, Upton is still getting better. His three-year OPS of .820 shows he can get it done when it counts and the fact he is going to steal 20-25 bases make him an asset in nearly every stat category. Expect him to improve on 2010’s numbers this season.

The third choice is a tough call, but the safe pick is Pedroia. He was derailed by a foot injury a year ago, but he still remains an elite option at fantasy baseball’s thinnest position, second base. Uggla is now in Atlanta, but he won’t offer as much help as Pedroia across the board.

I expect a dip in numbers this season from Bautista and Young, making both bad keeper options here.  Hart has some upside, but outfield is so deep I take my chances by locking down second base.
