One Year Makes Big Difference

10. October 2011  - Published by Dan Clasgens

I remember like it was yesterday, 10/10/10. Actually, it was one year ago today. The day the Bengals and the Reds' season ended on the same day for the first time the ever.

The Reds season literally ended as they got knocked off by Cole Hamels in Game Three of the NLDS as the Phillies completed the sweep with a win at Great American Ballpark. Earlier in the day the Bengals lost to the Bucs to fall 2-3 and pretty much out of contention in the AFC North just games into the season.

It was a dream day for a Cincinnati sports fan like myself, attending two games within hours of each other. However, it quickly turned to a nightmare.

Carson Palmer gave a first sign of what was to come, a terrible season by a quarterback that suffered one too many injuries. His two picks in the game's final minutes cost his team a win.

The Reds' bats were non-existent, again. Hamels struck out nine and went the distance as Philly shutout the Reds for the second time in three games.

Ironically, here we sit a year later. The Bengals are exceeding expectations and just moved to 3-2 after beating Jacksonville. Meanwhile, the Reds' season ended in June (end of September really) and they are stuck watching divsion foes, the Brewers and Cardinals, play in the NLCS for a spot in the World Series.
